Low Voltage Estimating Services to Win More Bids with 98%+ Accuracy
Every modern commercial facility and residential development relies heavily on interconnected low-voltage systems, from fiber-optic backbones and IP CCTV networks to complex fire alarm integrations. However, a single missed connector, miscalculated linear footage of conduit, or underestimated labor rate instantly destroys your profit margins or costs you the project entirely.
At Universe Estimating, we close that gap with professional low-voltage estimating services for contractors across the USA. Our team of certified electrical estimators provides highly detailed, field-verified low-voltage material takeoffs and labor cost analyses designed to help contractors win bids with confidence and protect their bottom lines. We count every device, measure every cable run down to the last connector, and price labor through testing, programming, and commissioning. You bid with numbers you can trust.
Don’t let a single missed 2-dollar connector or underestimated labor hours erase your profits. Partner with Universe Estimating today to achieve a 98%+ accuracy rate on your next low-voltage bid and turn more proposals into profitable contracts.
What Are Low Voltage Estimating Services?
Low-voltage estimating services are the process of calculating the materials, specialized equipment, labor hours, and operational overhead required to install electrical systems operating at 50 volts or less. Examples of low-voltage estimating are data and telecom cabling, fire alarm, security, access control, audio/visual, nurse call, and building controls. A low-voltage estimate combines a quantity takeoff of devices, cable footage, and pathway with labor hours for installation, termination, testing, programming and commissioning. It then adds overhead, profit, and tax to reach a final bid price.
On commercial projects, most low voltage scope falls under CSI MasterFormat Division 27 (Communications) and Division 28 (Electronic Safety and Security). Some control and lighting control scope appears in Divisions 25 and 26. Because this scope is spread across sheets and specification sections, it is one of the easiest trades to miss items on and one of the hardest to price correctly. Most commercial and industrial projects carry far more than low-voltage scope, which is why many contractors combine this work with Universe Estimating’s construction cost estimation services to cover every trade in a single bid.
Low Voltage Systems We Estimate
Our estimators handle every major low voltage system on residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial projects.
Fire Alarm and Life Safety Systems
We estimate complete fire alarm systems: addressable and conventional control panels, annunciators, smoke, heat, duct, and beam detectors, pull stations, and horns, strobes, and speaker/strobes. Contractors managing multi-trade bids often outsource our electrical estimating alongside fire alarm scope to cover the full project.
Our takeoffs also cover voice evacuation, mass notification, ERRCS/BDA emergency radio systems, aspirating smoke detection, and the interfaces to sprinklers, elevators, HVAC shutdown, and door holders. Labor includes SLC and NAC wiring, programming, and acceptance testing, so the estimate reflects the full cost of getting the system approved.
Security and Video Surveillance
We price IP and analog camera systems, including fixed, PTZ, multi-sensor, and thermal cameras, along with NVRs, VMS servers, storage, PoE switches, and monitoring workstations.
Our security estimates also cover intrusion detection, perimeter sensors, panic and duress alarms, license plate recognition, and video analytics licensing. Each camera and sensor is counted with its mount, cabling, setup, and programming time.
Access Control Systems
Our access control estimates are built door by door. They include card, keypad, biometric, and mobile credential readers, controllers, and power supplies. They also include electric strikes, maglocks, electrified locksets, REX devices, and door position switches.
We also estimate gate and parking access, turnstiles, elevator access control, visitor management, and video intercom entry, with composite cabling and programming labor included.
Structured Cabling, Data and Telecommunications
We estimate horizontal copper cabling in Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A, plus single-mode and multimode fiber backbones with termination, splicing, and enclosures.
Our takeoffs cover MDF and IDF buildouts, racks, cabinets, ladder rack, patch panels, wireless access point drops, grounding and bonding, and pathways such as J-hooks, cable tray, sleeves, and firestop. We also price outside plant and campus fiber, passive optical LAN, data center cabling, VoIP, CATV and IPTV, including testing, certification and labeling.
We estimate active and passive Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), cellular signal boosters, and small cell infrastructure that bring reliable coverage inside large or dense buildings.
Our takeoffs include antennas, splitters, coax and fiber runs, head-end equipment, and the cabling behind Wi-Fi coverage and point-to-point wireless links.
Audio/Visual Systems
We price AV for conference rooms, classrooms, auditoriums, theaters and houses of worship, including displays, projectors, screens, video walls, speakers, amplifiers, DSPs and control systems.
Our AV estimates also cover distributed audio, public address and paging, sound masking, assistive listening and hearing loops, lecture capture and digital signage networks. We include rack integration, system programming and commissioning so nothing is left off the bid.
Healthcare and Specialty Communication Systems
For hospitals, clinics and senior living projects, we estimate nurse call systems, real-time location systems (RTLS), infant security, patient wander management and staff duress systems.
We also price intercom and master clock systems, including wireless clocks, school bell and class change systems, blue-light emergency call stations, and elevator emergency phones. These systems are counted station by station, with the integration work they need to communicate with other building systems.
Building Automation and Controls
We estimate the low voltage side of building automation, including BAS/BMS wiring, HVAC controls, thermostats, and sensors.
Our lighting control takeoffs cover occupancy and daylight sensors, 0-10V and DALI controls, networked lighting, and PoE lighting. We also price energy management, metering, motorized shade controls, and leak and environmental monitoring systems.
Residential and Smart Home Low Voltage
For custom homes, multifamily and residential developments, we estimate structured wiring panels, whole-home networking, home theaters, media rooms, and whole-home audio.
Our residential estimates also include smart home automation, video doorbells, intercoms, and residential security and camera systems, priced for new construction or retrofit conditions.
Industrial Low Voltage and Controls
We estimate instrumentation and control wiring, PLC and SCADA interconnects, and control panel wiring for manufacturing plants, processing facilities, and utilities. Our industrial takeoffs also cover gas detection, industrial networks and fiber backbones, and plant-wide PA, paging and security systems. Labor is adjusted for industrial site conditions such as working heights, cable tray runs, and hazardous areas.
How We Master Scale Complexities in Our Takeoffs
No matter how large or intricate your construction documents are, our estimation process actively maps out components that general estimators routinely miss:
Conduit & Pathway Sizing: We don’t just count the wires. We calculate correct fill ratios for conduits, J-hooks, and cable tray widths to ensure you buy enough physical structural support.
System Testing & Certification Hours: Large scales mean massive testing timelines. We accurately build in the labor hours required to certify every single Cat6 drop or fiber splice using advanced testing gear (like Fluke testers).
Voltage Drop Mitigation: For long cable runs across massive distribution centers or campuses, we factor in necessary signal repeaters or thicker gauge wires to ensure peak technical performance.
